Thanks for your reply Perkalator. I had already cleaned the battery terminals and that didn't help. I recently read about checking the ground cable. I left the ignition switch on and wiggled the positive wires and suddenly heard a clicking sound. I found that the screws that hold the replacement-type connector were not tight. At this point I felt like slapping myself. One of the screws was not tightening well. I went down the street to the Advance Auto store and bought new battery connections. The new ones have a nut on the bottom which will ensure that they stay tight. I replaced them and it started right up. It skipped for a few miles but finally smoothed out. I assume that the PCM had to reset but on my way back home it ran great. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the problem has been resolved. I had read that sometimes it takes several cranks for it to totally reset but for now it's running great. Thanks again for your response. Dennis in S.C.

I have a '97 Wrangler 4-cylinder. I just put a new starter & solenoid on my Jeep because it was clicking but not turning over. Once it does that it won't start until I unhook my battery cables...after that it will start fine, idle good and run strong but then it will suddenly start cutting back really hard. I thought changing the starter would solve the problem. This evening it started fine..ran good but after driving about 2 miles it started skipping really bad. When I went back out to start it up it just clicked. I had to roll start it but I drove back home with no problem. But I checked it after turning it off and it only clicked. ??? I know I can take the cables off and it will start right up. I kinda think it might be a O2 sensor or possibly the TPS or CPS. Any ideas? Thanks. Dennis Stevens in S.C.
